How well do you know the laws, regulations and policies governing property management and tenant screening?
If you have a “no pets allowed” policy in place for your property, which of the following animals are you required to permit by law?
A. Dog
B. Cat
C. Hamster
D. Duck
E. A & B
F. All of the above
G. None of the above
Answer: The answer is F, if the pet is a service animal. You are not allowed to ask the severity of the person’s disability or of what nature. Although most service animals do work or perform tasks for their owners as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), there is a provision for emotional support, well-being, comfort and companionship under the “reasonable accommodations” list under the Federal Fair Housing Act, Section 504.
